VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Vancouver Velocity Speed Skating Club is a small nonprofit and an amazing sport community powered entirely by volunteers, all the way from our board to our dedicated coaching team. Our operations require significant and reliable volunteer support to run successfully, and we need every member to pitch in to keep our club going strong.

How the program works

To share our club responsibilities fairly among our members, every family in the club is required to complete 16 mandatory volunteer hours over the season.

Each family will also provide a postdated (April 1) volunteer fee deposit cheque of $400 at registration, which will be deposited if the 16 hours are not completed, or if a formal volunteer role is taken on but duties are not performed consistently and well.

If your family is unable to participate, you may opt out and provide a cheque or e-transfer of $400 at the start of the season.

Important: if your child(ren) participate(s) in any meets or competition events during the season, it is compulsory for you to participate in any duties assigned to our club, even if you have completed 16 hours of volunteering.

Tracking your volunteer time

Each family must log its completed volunteer hours in a Volunteer Hours Tracking Sheet (please download & print) and have the hours verified by supervising club volunteer staff. Please note: if you volunteer at a meet run by another club, you can only count a max of 4h across all meets in the season toward your VSSC volunteer time.

To earn credit for the work you have done, please drop off your completed Volunteer Tracking Sheet to the board by the Annual General Meeting at the end of the season.  If the completed sheet is not submitted by this deadline, your cheque will be cashed.  No extensions, no emails, no scans, no text messaged forms will be accepted. Partial refunds will not be issued.

Sign up for volunteer work

  • Sign up for all current volunteer roles in this Google sheet and a club staff member will contact you to get you started. The sheet has an assigned leader for each volunteer role – this leader will mentor and oversee each volunteer, and sign off on their tracking sheet as needed as duties are performed.
  • Opportunities to volunteer will also be communicated to club members throughout the season. Please ensure you are signed up for our newsletter or in our Whatsapp group.

Thank you for your support

Volunteering is critical to keep our club and sport thriving. We know everyone is busy, but supporting your club with your time and effort helps keep our fees low, gives you new skills and connections, and helps you build a strong community while having fun! Thank you for taking part!
