SPRING/SUMMER SEASON – DRYLAND, NO ICE SESSIONS

From April to August, the club is in its summer off-season as Kitsilano Rink is a dry-floor rink at this time. During this time we offer outdoor and indoor dryland sessions and special training events such as cycling and indoor skating.

For the 2025 summer dryland season, learn more and register here.

2024/2025 FALL/WINTER REGISTRATION

What are the minimum requirements?

Age requirement

Minimum skating age is 5 years old as of June 30 of the current year

Skating proficiency

For safety, VSSC requires that new skaters have some basic skating experience. Skaters must be able to:

    • skate across the length of the rink without assistance;
    • glide on one foot;
    • forward scull with both feet; and
    • snowplow stop with both feet.

What else do I need to get ready for registration?

Select your program and fees

Review our Fees page and Practice Schedule page and decide which program you want to enroll in.

Please note: Our main program has ice time from September through March while Kits Rink is open. During summer, we run dryland training outdoors. See the full overview on our Program page.

Get your equipment

VSSC provides rental of speed skates as part of its program costs—but all speed skaters need to have mandatory safety equipment before you can get on the ice! See the list of needed items here.

Key Registration Items

  1. If your skater is a child, each parent must register as a Guardian Member as well

    • If no Guardian Member is registered the skating member is not permitted on ice. We prefer it if two Guardians are registered for a child skater.

  2. Bring postdated cheques (April 1) to your first session. We require:
      • One cheque for $400 for your family’s volunteer deposit – if volunteer hours are not completed, the cheque is deposited
      • One cheque for $500 per pair of skates you rent – if skates are not returned, the cheque is deposited
      • Make all cheques out to “Vancouver Speed Skating Club”
  3. Get your skates
  4. Sign up for our newsletter and WhatsApp community (we’ll share the Whatsapp link at the club!)
    • These are the 2 main ways we send out critical club info.
  5. Sign up to volunteer

Refund Policy

  • Prior to season start: 100% refund of VSSC club fee, less $25 admin fee and transaction fees. You are responsible for obtaining refunds from SSBC and SSC for their fees.
  • After season start: no refunds.
